    Ages 12–18

This year, teens are invited to step into a more focused and exploratory studio experience through our Art Uncovered Series. Designed for students who want to grow their skills while maintaining creative freedom, this series blends weekly skill-building with a larger, ongoing piece that develops over time.

Each month will focus on a primary medium:

  • June: Drawing
  • July: Painting
  • September: Artist Studies

Students can attend all sessions for a deeper experience or join as their schedule allows. Each class is designed to stand on its own while also contributing to a larger body of work for those attending consistently.

This class is ideal for teens who want to:

  • Build confidence in their artistic abilities
  • Explore new techniques and materials
  • Work on a more developed, layered piece over time
  • Experience a studio environment that encourages both independence and guidance

July: Painting Focus

Each week builds skills that can be layered into a larger painting:

July 7 — Color Mixing & Palette Control
Learn how to mix colors intentionally and create a cohesive palette.

July 14 — Brushwork & Application Techniques
Explore different ways to apply paint to create movement, texture, and variation.

July 21 — Layering & Building Depth
Understand how to build a painting through layers rather than finishing all at once.

July 28 — Final Details & Personal Style
Refine work, add details, and explore how to make a piece feel personal and complete.

September

Week 1: The Foundations of Drawing

Focus: Observation, line, value, and composition

We'll explore how artists have used drawing as the foundation of their practice throughout history. Students will work on observational drawing skills while beginning a personal sketchbook project that can continue throughout the series.

Week 2: Color Through the Ages

Focus: Color theory, mood, and expressive painting

Discover how artists have used color to communicate emotion, tell stories, and create atmosphere. Students will experiment with color relationships while continuing to develop their personal artwork.

Week 3: Texture, Pattern & Surface Design

Focus: Mixed media, layering, and visual storytelling

We'll examine how artists across cultures have used pattern, texture, and surface treatments to create visual interest. Students will experiment with layering techniques and mixed media approaches.

Week 4: Modern Movements & Creative Risk-Taking

Focus: Abstract thinking, experimentation, and personal voice

Explore how artists challenged traditional rules and developed entirely new ways of creating. Students will be encouraged to take creative risks and develop their own artistic style.

Week 5: Building a Body of Work

Focus: Refinement, critique, and presentation

Our final session focuses on pulling everything together. Students will continue developing ongoing projects, receive individualized feedback, and learn how artists evaluate, refine, and present their work.

Throughout the series, students will have the option to:

  • Work on one larger evolving piece
  • Or create multiple smaller works based on weekly concepts

This flexible structure allows for both drop-in participation and long-term growth, making it a perfect fit for summer schedules.

All supplies are included.
